Kolam

In Kerala, elephants are beautifully decorated during temple
processions and celebrations. They are worn with a distinctive
golden head covering or elephant caparison locally called a
‘Nettipattam’ and a ‘Thidambu’ bearing the idol of God. The replicas
of elephant caparisons (Nettipattam & Thidambu) are widely used
to decorate living spaces. A lot of effort, skill and materials are
required to design the artwork. Here is a beautiful ‘Thidambu’ made
by the traditional artisans. It is considered to be a prestigious and
auspicious decor by the elite class.
